all of a sudden, point out, be up, be over, on time

1. all of a sudden

 

- 뜻: suddenly, without warning; all at once; 갑자기

- All of a sudden Ed appeared at the door. We weren't expecting him to drop by. (갑자기 에드가 문에서 나타났다. 우리는 그가 들릴거라고 예상하지 못했었다.)

- All at once Millie got up and left the house without any explanation. (갑자기 밀리가 일어나서 어떤 설명도 없이 집을 떠났다.)

 

 

2. to point out

 

- 뜻: to show, to indicate, to bring to one's attention; 지적하다, 가리키다, 누군가의 관심을 불러일으키다

- What important building did the tour guide point out to you? (그 여행 가이드가 너한테 알려줬던 중요한 건물이 뭐였여?)

- The teacher pointed out the mistakes in my composition. (선생님이 내 작곡/작품에서 실수를 지적했어.)

- A friend pointed the famous actor out to me. (친구가 그 유명한 배우를 나한테 알려줬어.)

 

 

3. to be up

 

- 뜻: to expire, to be finished; 만료되다, 끝나다 (항상 time인 주어랑만 쓰임)

- "The time is up." the teacher said at the end of the test period. ("끝났어." 선생님이 시험시간 끝에 말했다.)

- We have to leave the tennis court because our hour is up; some other people want to use it now. (우리는 테니스 코트 떠나야해 왜냐면 우리 시간이 끝나니까.)

 

 

4. to be over

 

- 뜻: to be finished, to end; to be through (: used for activities and events); 끝나다

- After the dance was over, we all went to a restaurant. (춤이 끝나고 나서, 우리는 모두 식당에 갔어.)

- The meeting was through ten minutes earlier than everyone expected. (회의가 모두가 기대했던 것 보다 10분 일찍 끝났어.)

 

 

5. on time

 

- 뜻: exactly at the correct time, punctually; 제시간에, 정확한 시간에

- I thought that Margaret would arrive late, but she was right on time. (마가렛이 늦게 도착한거 같았는데, 제시간에 도착했어.)

- Did you get to work on time this morning, or did rush hourh traffic delay you? (오늘 아침에 제시간에 도착했어? 아니면 차 밀리는 시간이어서 늦었어?)
