1. in time to+동사원형
- 뜻: before the time necessary to do something; 필요한 어떤 것을 할 시간 전에
- We entered the theater just in time to see the beginning of the movie. (우리는 영화 시작 부분을 볼 시간에 딱 영화관에 들어갔다.)
- The truck was not able to stop in time to prevent an accident. (트럭은 그 사고를 막을 시간에 멈추지 못했다.)
2. to get better/ worse, etc..
- 뜻: to become better, worse, etc; 더 좋아지다/ 더 나빠지다
- Heather has been sick for a month, but now she is getting better. (헤더는 한달 가량 아팠는데 이제는 점점 나아지고 있어.)
- This medicine isn't helping me. Instead of getting better, I'm getting worse. (이 약은 효과가 없어. 더 나아지는 대신에 더 악화되고 있어.)
3. to get sick, well, tired, busy, etc...
- 뜻: to become sick, well, tired, busy, etc; 점점 아픈, 나은, 피곤한, 바쁜,
- Gerald got sick last week and has been in bed since that time. (제랄드는 저번 주에 아파서 그때 부터 침대에 있었다.)
- Every afternoon I get very hungry, so I eat a snack. (오후마다 나는 엄청 배고파서 간식 먹어.)
4. had better+동사원형
- 뜻: should, ought to, be advisable to; ~해야한다(축약형으로 더 많이 사용됨: 'd better)
- I think you'd better speak to Mr. White right away about this matter. (너 화이트씨랑 이 문제에 대해서 지금 바로 이야기 해봐야 할 거 같아.)
- The doctor told the patient that he'd better go home and rest. (그 의사가 환자에게 집에가서 쉬는 게 낫겠다고 말했다.)
5. would rather
- 뜻: prefer to; would just as soon; 선호하다
- Would you rather have the appointment this Friday or next Monday? (이번주 금요일에 약속 잡는게 나아? 다음주 월요일이 나아?)
- I would just as soon go for a walk as watch TV right now. (지금 당장 티비 보는거 보단 산책가는 게 나을거 같아.)
