1. to get used to+명사

 

- 뜻: to become used to,  to become adjusted to: 익숙해지다, 적응되다(상황, 행동, 습관 등에 익숙해지는 변화의 과정을 설명)

- It took Yoshiko a long time to get used to the food that her American host family served her. (요시코는 미국인 가족이 제공한 음식에 익숙해지는 데 오랜 시간이 걸렸다.)

- Mark can't seem to get used to wearing contact lenses; recently he's been wearing his glasses a lot. (마크는 콘택트 렌즈를 쓰는 데 익숙해질 수가 없을 거 같다; 최근에 그는 안경을 많이 쓰고 있다.)

 

 

 

2. back and forth

 

- 뜻: in a backward and forward motions: 앞뒤로, 좌우로, 오락가락하는

- The restless lion kept pacing back and forth along the front of its cage. (가만히 있지 못하는 사자는 계속 우리 앞을 따라서 이리저리 움직였다.)

- Grandmother finds it relaxing to sit in her rocking chair and move back and forth. (할머니는 흔들의자에 앉아서 앞뒤로 움직이는게 편안하다는걸 알았다.)

 

 

 

3. to make sure

 

- 뜻: to be sure, to ascertion; to make certain: 확신하다

- Please make sure that you turn off the radio before you go out. (나가기 전에 라디오 잘 끄고 나가.)

- Could you make certain of the time? I don't want to miss that TV show. (그 시간 확정지어주실래요? 제가 그 티비 쇼를 놓치고 싶지 않아서요.)

 

 

 

4. now and then

 

- 뜻: occasionally, sometimes; now and again, at times, from time to time, off and on, (every) once in a while; every now and then, : 가끔, 때때로

- I don't see him very often, but (every) now and then we arrange to have lunch together. (나는 그를 자주 볼 수가 없어서, 가끔 점심을 함께 먹을 자리를 마련해.)

- Gary gets a cold (every) once in a while even thought he takes good care of himself. (개리는 그를 잘 돌보는 데도 불구하고 가끔 감기에 걸린다.)

- Every so often my brother and I get together for a camping trip. (가끔 내 남동생과 나는 캠핑 여행을 같이 간다.)

- I like to sleep late in the morning from time to time. (나는 가끔 아침 늦잠자는 걸 좋아한다.)

 

 

 

5. to get rid of

 

- 뜻: to eliminate, to remove; to discard, to throw away: 제거하다, 버리다

- Jerry tried hard to get rid of the stain on his shirt, but he never succeeded. (제리는 그의 셔츠에 묻은 얼룩을 지우려고 엄청 애를 썼지만, 성공하지 못했다.)

- The stain was so bad that Jerry finally had to get rid of his. (그 얼룩이 심해서 너무 제리는 결국 그의 것을 없애버렸다.)
