1. to look into
- 뜻: to investigate, to examine carefully; to check into: 조사하다, 면밀히 관찰하다
- The police are looking into the matter of the stolen computers. (경찰관은 도둑맞은 컴퓨터의 문제를 조사하고 있다.)
- The congressional committee will check into the financial dealing of the government contractor. (그 국회의원은 정부 계약자의 재정 거래를 조사할 것이다.)
2. to take hold of
- 뜻: to grasp, to grip with the hands: 쥐다, 손으로 잡다
- You should take hold of the railing as you go down those steep stairs. (너는 저 깊은 계단으로 내려갈수록 난간을 잡아야 해.)
- The blind man took hold of my arm as I led him across the street. (그 장님은 내가 그를 길을 건너게 이끌었을 때 내 팔을 쥐었다.)
3. to get through
- 뜻: to finish, to complete: 끝내다, 완료하다
- I didn't get through studying last night until almost eleven o'clock. (나는 어젯 밤 거의 11시까지 공부를 끝내지 못했어.)
- At what time does your wife get through with work every day? (너희 부인은 매일 몇시에 일을 끝내?)
4. from now on
- 뜻: from this time into the future: 지금부터 (미래까지)
- Mr. Lee's doctor told him to cut down on eating fatty foods from now on, or else he might suffer heart disease. (이씨의 의사는 그에게 기름진 음식들을 지금부터 줄이라고 말했다, 그렇지 않으면 심장병으로 고생할지도 모른다.)
- I'm sorry that I dropped by at a bad time. From now on I'll call you first. (안 좋은 타이밍에 들러서 미안. 앞으로는 먼저 전화할게.)
5. to keep track of
- 뜻: to keep or maintain a record of; to remember the location of: 기록을 유지하다, ~의 장소를 기억하다, ~을 계속 파악하다
- Steve keeps track of all the long-distance telephone calls related to his business that he makes from his house. (스티브는 집에서 일어난 그의 사업과 관련된 모든 시외 전화 기록들을 유지하고 있다.)
- With seven small children, how do the Wilsons keep track of all of them? (어린 애들 7명과 어떻게 윌슨네는 그 아이들을 다 파악하는거야?)
