1. to take place
- 뜻: to occur, to happen according to plan; 발생하다, 계획에 따라 발생하다
- The regular meetings of the committee take place in Constitution Hall. (위원회의 일반적인 회의는 국회에서 일어난다.)
- I thought that the celebration was taking place in John's house. (내 생각에 존의 집에서 축하한 거 같다.)
2. to put away
- 뜻: to remove from sight, to put in the proper place; 시야에서 안보이게 치우다, 적절한 장소에 놓다
- Please put away your papers before you open the test booklet. (시험지를 열기 전에 종이를 치워주세요.)
- John put the notepad away in his desk when he was finished with it. (존은 노트를 다 사용하고 나서 책상에 넣었다.)
3. to look out (for)
- 뜻: to be careful or cautious; to watch out (for); 조심하다, 주의하다
- "Look out!" Jeffrey cried as his friend almost stepped in a big hole in the ground. ("조심해!" 제프리가 친구가 땅에 있는 큰 구멍을 거의 밟았을 때 소리쳤다.)
- Look out for reckless drivers whenever you cross the street. (네가 길을 건널 때 마다 무모한 운전자들을 조심해야해.)
- Small children should always watch out for strangers offering candy. (어린 아이들은 항상 사탕을 주는 낯선사람들을 조심해야 한다.)
4. to shake hands
- 뜻: to exchange greetings by clasping hands; 손을 움켜 잡으면서 인사를 교환하다; 악수하다
- When people meet for the first time, they usually shake hands. (사람들이 처음으로 만날 때, 그들은 주로 악수를 한다.)
- The student warmly shook hands with his old professor. (그 학생이 그의 오랜 교수님과 따뜻하게 악수를 했다.)
5. to get back
- 뜻: to return; 돌아오다
- Mr. Harris got back from his business trip to Chicago this morning. (해리스 씨는 오늘 아침에 시카고로 출장을 다녀왔다.)
- Could you get the children back home by five o'clock? (다섯 시 까지 집으로 아이들좀 데리고 와 주실래요?)
